NextGen Engineering is a water resources and civil engineering firm with a main office located in Tucson, Arizona and a project office in Ventura, California. NextGen provides hydrology, climate research, floodplain management, watershed planning, design & drafting, land development, and stakeholder engagement services for clients in Arizona, California, and internationally. Bill loves to build bridges - over water and with people. Bill is President and Principal Engineer at NextGen Engineering. Founded in 2012, NextGen specializes in water resources and civil engineering. NextGen participates in local and international workshops and training, including facilitating a Fundamentals of Engineering exam preparation course with University of Arizona's Continuing Education. Bill has over 30 years of professional experience in engineering, watershed planning, training, and design for water infrastructure.
Bill and his family lived and worked in the Middle East for over a decade. He also participated in Water supply, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) training in Ethiopia and Central Asia. Bill is an active volunteer in the Tucson international and refugee-serving community.
Dr. Erfan Tousi was born and raised in Iran and has a Ph.D in Water Resources Engineering from the University of Arizona. He is passionate about finding ways for analyzing natural water resource systems more realistically through hydraulic and hydrological (H&H) modeling.
Dr. Tousi began as an intern with NextGen Engineering and became a full time Associate Water Resource Engineer in 2020. He is responsible for some of NextGen's highly detailed Model and Research projects. Dr. Tousi is also skilled in Machine Learning (ML) techniques and is passionate about how ML techniques can be employed in modeling water systems. He brings a fresh perspective to correcting and updating FEMA flood maps.
Dr. Tousi collaborated with Shahab Doulabian, Amirhossein Shadmehri Toosi, and NextGen President Bill O’Brien on a research paper published in Sustainable Cities and Society. The paper examines the impact of climate change on infrastructure design in Tucson.
Tariq became a full-time staff member at NextGen after graduating with a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Arizona. Previously, Tariq served as a NextGen intern for three years supporting NextGen’s Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Class at the University of Arizona. As an intern he provided research support to various NextGen projects and he is now an experienced Civil Infrastructure designer.
Born and raised in Baghdad, Iraq, Tariq came to Tucson as a refugee with his family 11 years ago. Tariq is passionate about serving vulnerable and under-represented communities, and bringing insight into how to make those communities safer in a modernizing world.
Samantha is originally from Tucson, with a Bachelor of International Business and a Minor in Finance from New Jersey Institute of Technology. She has been invested in developing the greater Tucson area through commercial and residential projects since 2016. As a realtor and developer, she has worked with many different clients from architects to builders, engineers to investors. She brings her experience, passion, and her love of people to her work. Samantha enjoys working to see developments become a reality for the NextGen Engineering team.
Originally from Tucson, Richard began his career conducting economic impact assessments of proposed regulations for the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Later in his career, as CEO of an Environmental Engineering Company, Richard made several acquisitions, three of which were in Canada. Richard also spent time in the U.S Air Force and the Air National Guard and retired with the rank of Colonel. He carries over 40 years of professional and business management experience that make him a key member of the NextGen team.
Raised in Denver Colorado, Fred moved to California in 1983. With over 34 years experience in drafting, Fred’s knowledge is immense, and he brings a lot to the table for NextGen. Fred has been with NextGen for the past 6 years as a CAD designer and drafter. He is passionate about being involved in the foster care system and he enjoys volunteering as a CASA (court appointed special advocate). He is experienced in AutoCAD, AutoCAD Civil 3d, MicroStation, and Traffix software packages.
John has over 35 years of experience in the Civil Engineering Profession. The Engineering disciplines included Civil Design, Traffic Design and Water System Design. He has worked on projects in Civil Roadway Design (Including roadway, drainage, striping and right of way) as well as Utility Modification, Potable Water and Reclaim Water Plant Designs. Additionally, He has some work experience in Construction Inspection and Civil Survey Field. He maintains a working knowledge in producing Construction plans using Autodesk Computer Aided Design (CAD) Software. He started using AutoCAD since Release 9 and is currently using the Civil 3D Collection 2020 Version. The CAD drawings He has produced over his career are of the following design: Site Plan, Roadway, Grading, Plan and Profiles, Traffic Signals, Electrical, Structural, Design Details, Right of Way and Landscaping Plans.
Dylan started working in land surveying over four years ago, and was always drawn to map making. In addition to CAD design, in his free time Dylan enjoys skiing, mountain biking, and rock climbing. Dylan is excited to be working with an environmentally conscious company, like Nextgen, and is an EPA certified construction general permit site inspector. Dylan believes it is important to care for the environment through work, so you can continue to enjoy it in your free time.
